Recent Highlights
- Eastside Bring Your Own Cup Campaign
- Community outreach and restaurant guidance for increasing the use of reusables.
- City of Bellevue Single-Use Plastic Phase Out at Bellevue School District Schools
- Reduced 6.6 tons of plastic waste each year by eliminating the use of 1.5 million plastic straws and 1.5 million plastic utensils each year!
- City of Redmond Commercial Organics Program and Derby Days Reuse program.
- Worked with 200-plus businesses and multifamily properties (almost 10,000 units) to compost food scraps. Route reviews and program logistics assistance.
- Switched from single-use plastics to reusable service ware for the city’s annual festival—diverting 3,000 single-use cups or plastics.
- King County Housing Authority White Center Eco Living Outreach Program
- Trained students to train their families on ways to reduce waste and resource use. Program conducted in multiple languages.
- City of Issaquah Schoolpool and Resource Conservation Work
- Worked with the school district, administrators, staff, and students on impactful action.
- Eastside Cities Community Classes and Events
- Taught hands-on classes for the community on easy changes to save resources. Topics included repair, food waste prevention, safer cleaning, proper sorting, reducing plastic use, and composting.
- During 2024, we talked with 30,000 people through presentations and events.
- We have made presentations at conventions throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Washington State Recycling Association, Biocycle, Environmental Protection Agency, Northwest Festivals Conference, Washington State Nutrition Association, Washington Association of Education Office Professionals, and Building Owners and Managers Association.
- We have had articles published in BioCycle Magazine, Seattle Magazine, Radio & Records Newsletter, King County Solid Waste Division Newsletter, EPA Newsletter, Department of Ecology event recycling guide, WSRA Newsletter, and projects covered on news outlets: CNN, King TV.
- Seventeen schools we worked with have won King County Earth Heroes awards.
- We have received four Washington State Recycling Association Awards (2021, 2020, 2015, 2011) as a key player in agency teams.
